Artist Statement

My work aims to capture the surreal and macabre. I am a New Orleans artist, born and raised in the city of spirits, witchcraft, and culture. The stories I heard growing up greatly affected how I approach my subject matter. I also attended a Catholic all-female high school, leading to my fascination with the female experience. By combining female figures with dark subjects, I explore issues such as fertility, gender equality, and the female experience. Using oil, acrylics, and graphite, I create fantastical worlds reminiscent of the work of Ken Currie, Edvard Munch, and David Lynch. My works range in size and color, but remain limited in palette, subject matter, and style. As a young female artist, I constantly adapt my art to keep it relevant and impactful. Through the lens of the female experience, I explore modern issues such as the “housewife” stereotype, the motherhood issues, and the abuse women continuously face. My work primarily focuses on the figure and the surreal environment around it.
